This crystal chamber is one of my favourites. It took a few years, and many revisions, to bring this vision to life.
The base hilt is a 7Chambers Aniflex V1, which is a heavy, robust, chrome-plated brass saber. Since the penultimate Luke Skywalker Graflex chassis is, in my opinion, the MB Sabers Metal Master, I looked to it for inspiration.
The lower portion of the chassis features a handmade speaker cover designed to mimic the speaker venting on the hilt base. Behind the speaker is a 5mm RGB pixel, akin to the setup found on the MB speaker section. On one side of the lower portion is a power-level indicator strip, a USB-C port for charging and data, and a kill switch with a handmade aluminum cap. On the other side is a layered aluminum vent stacked with brass mesh and led diffusion material. The upper section of the lower chamber portion is machined with a type of square knurling to mimic the hilt clamp knurling.
The crystal itself is a half-segment of an MB Sabers Origin crystal. The system for illuminating and spinning the crystal is unique and complex. There is a handmade aluminum spindle holding the crystal, with copper plates bent inward to retain the crystal. Underneath are 16 2mm holes milled inward at a 45-degree angle. These holes line up with a 20-pixel ring surrounding the central motor, and ultimately direct the light from around the motor towards the crystal base.
Surrounding the crystal is a stack of 7 handmade radiator fins. These fins are cut using a 1940s pantograph, so unlike a laser or water cutter, the fins here are entirely handmade. After being cut out with the pantograph, the fins are given 'perlage' or 'spotting', which serves to refract light (and look cool), then they are treated to 'anglage', which is a traditional technique found on only the most luxury swiss watches. The technique involves many specialized tools and polishing methods, and is not only exceptionally difficult, but it is a time consuming process that can only be done entirely by hand. The anglage gives fantastic depth to the fins, and enhances the overall appearance of the chamber. Finally, the fins are prepped for rhodium plating in such a way that the finish will be spotty, and the end result is a radiator fin that has all the premium finishes needed to enhance its beauty, while still retaining the appearance of an ancient device of a bygone era.
The upper chamber houses a plasma gate much like the MB chassis. The inner gate holds a polycarbonate tube encasing brass mesh and blade diffusion material. surrounding the inner gate is a set of MB pipes with brass coolant tubes running in and out around the circumference.
